Automatic gearbox: Check ATF level as well as ATF quality, if necessary top up or change
  Note
t  To check the oil level the vehicle must be on level ground.
t  If contamination or a dark colour of the oil or water in the oil is noticed during a quality inspection, the oil must be changed → Anchor.
t  If the oil is black and smells strongly, this can cause one of the gearshift elements to burn →Automatic gearbox 01V; Rep. gr.37.
t  The oil must be clean and must not contain any additives.
t  It must be topped up only with Škoda Original ATF → Electronic Catalogue of Original Parts and no additional agent must be used!
t  The engine must not be started without ATF and the vehicle must not be towed!
t  Observe the disposal instructions.
t  Wear safety goggles during work.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Catch pan, e.g. -VAS 6208-
t  Top-up ATF container e.g. -V.A.G 1924-
t  Vehicle diagnosis, measurement and information system -VAS-
l  All electrical components and air conditioning systems must be switched off.
l  Gearbox not in emergency running mode, ATF temperature not above 30 °C.
l  Vehicle on level ground.
l  With selector lever in „P“ position, let the engine idle.
The ATF level varies depending upon the ATF temperature.
Checking ATF level when ATF temperature is too low may result in over-filling.
Checking ATF level when ATF temperature is too high may result in under-filling.
Both over-filling as well as under-filling affect gearbox operation.
    
Overview
1 -  Oil drain plug with seal (must always be replaced)
2 -  ATF level check screw
3 -  ATF level (varies depending on the ATF temperature)
4 -  Drilled cap for refilling reservoir e.g. -V.A.G 1924-

  Note
When inserting the container in the drilled cap -4-, the cap must not be allowed to drain into the oil tank.

–  Attach the top-up container to the vehicle.
–  Remove the sound dampening system →Body Work; Rep. gr.50.

–  Switch ignition off to connect the diagnostic, measuring and information system -VAS- to the diagnostic plug socket of the vehicle.
–  Select the function vehicle self diagnosis and the address word 02„Automatic gearbox“
–  Select function 08„read measured value block“ and display group 04.

Position 1 on the display shows the ATF temperature.
The ATF temperature must not exceed 30°C at the start of the test.
–  Start engine.
–  Place the catch pan e.g. -VAS 6208- underneath. -VAS 6208-.
–  Bring ATF to test temperature.
Test temperature: 35 °C to 45 °C

–  Remove the ATF level check screw -arrow- of the oil pan

If ATF drips out of the hole, ATF level -arrow- is correct.
On starting the engine, only a small quantity of ATF should drip out of the inspection hole.
   N37-0486
–  Tighten the ATF level check screw -arrow- with a new seal, 80 Nm. This completes the ATF test.
–  Vehicle diagnosis is completed.
–  Switch off engine.
–  Switch ignition off to disconnect the diagnostic, measuring and information system -VAS- from the diagnostic plug socket of the vehicle.
–  Install the noise insulation →Body Work; Rep. gr.50.
If ATF drips out of the hole, the ATF level should be topped up.
   N37-0483
–  Fit top-up container e.g. -V.A.G 1924- in the drilled cap -arrow- without pressing the cap down.
   N37-0485
–  Top up ATF with the ATF refilling reservoir -V.A.G 1924- until ATF flows out of the inspection hole -arrow-.
   N37-0502
–  Tighten the ATF level check screw -arrow- with a new seal, 80 Nm.
–  Vehicle diagnosis is completed.
–  Switch off engine.
–  Switch ignition off to disconnect the diagnostic, measuring and information system -VAS- from the diagnostic plug socket of the vehicle.
–  Install the noise insulation →Body Work; Rep. gr.50.
